Gastvortrag an der Willy Brandt School in Erfurt, Titel: “EU-China relations: cooperation, competition and rivalry

13. Dezember 2019, 16:00 - 18:00

Public Guest Lecture by the Student Government

EU-China relations: cooperation, competition and rivalry

Can the EU-China relationship be summed up as being defined by high stakes and uneasiness? Healthy cooperation between the two countries has led to substantial economic growth on both sides so far. When Ursula Von der Leyen talks about wanting to teach the EU the „language of power“, the question arises, if a tougher stance in terms of trade regulations or human rights is therefore even permissible.

The Student Government of the Willy Brandt School will welcome Reinhard Bütikofer, to expand on this future defining topic, and contributing with his unique experience in parliamentarian external policy work. Having already served as the federal chairman of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen from 2002-2008, he was elected in 2012 to co-chair the European Green Party. After a landslide EU- election in 2019 (his party only being 2% short of having the highest share of votes), he moved his regional office to Thuringia and recently was elected as the head of the China-delegation of the European Parliament.
