EP Carbon Group Breakfast Discussion on Faith-based Groups and Fossil Fuel Divestment
27. Januar 2016, 08:30 - 10:00
Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has warned against the financial risks of not dealing with climate change, calling for more action by stating that once climate change becomes a defining issue for financial stability, it might already be too late. Simultaneously, a growing movement to divest financial assets from fossil fuels has emerged.
Faith-based groups have been playing a key role in this. Actors such as the World Council of Churches, Lutheran World Federation, Church of England, Quakers, and many more are divesting.
In this context, the Carbon Group – an informal MEP Group on the Carbon Bubble – is very pleased to welcome to a breakfast discussion a Delegation from the European Christian Environmental Network and have a keynote input from Reverend Henrik Grape from the Church of Sweden, who will kick-off the discussion, highlighting how the Church of Sweden is divesting from fossil fuels and the role that faith-based groups can play in divestment.
