Statt des regulären Programmes gab es während des Europäischen Grünen Gipfels am Wochenende Raum für Austausch und Trauer nachdem die Nachricht über die schrecklichen Anschläge von Paris bekannt wurde. Delegierte, Mitglieder der französischen Grünen, die vor Ort waren, und viele Parteispitzen gaben Ihrer Trauer und Bestürzung Ausdruck, bekundeten Solidarität und Entschlossenheit auf Terror und Hass nicht mit noch mehr Hass zu reagieren. “You can’t fight hatred with more hatred, you can’t fight darkness with more darkness – but with light”. Es gab jedoch auch viel Bewusstsein, wieviel schwieriger das politische Klima nun werden wird und wie hart es sein wird, für grüne Werte zu kämpfen, die nun von kurzfristigem und simplizistischem Denken unter Beschuss genommen werden.

We were shocked when we heard of the terrible terrorist attacks against the people of Paris last night, and we woke up in deep sadness this morning.
We, the European Greens, want to express our strong sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Our solidarity goes out to the people of Paris and the whole French nation. These attacks do not concern French citizens alone, but all of us as Europeans.
The best answer to terrorism is more democracy and openness, the Norwegian Prime Minister had said when his country witnessed theterrorist murders of many of its citizens. His words shall guide us in our reactions.
We will not abandon our shared values: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité.
It is impossible to return to business as usual after this terrible tragedy. This is why we will join our French friends in their mourning and in expressing the strongest condemnation of these attacks and the determination to mobilise the citizens of Europe in the defence of our shared values and of democracy.
