Das heute (Mittwoch, 1. Dezember) von der Europäischen Kommission vorgestellte Infrastruktur-Programm „Global Gateway Strategy“ als Antwort auf die chinesische Seidenstraßen-Initiative kommentiert Reinhard Bütikofer, Vorsitzender der China-Delegation des Europäischen Parlaments und Berichterstatter des Berichts zur Konnektivität: „Die Global Gateway-Strategie der Europäischen Kommission bedeutet einen Durchbruch, einen wichtigen Aufbruch nach vorne für die EU. Allzu lange hatten kommissionsinterne Querelen diese wichtige geostrategische Initiative aufgehalten. Jetzt hat EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen dankenswerterweise von ihrer Richtlinienkompetenz Gebrauch gemacht.
Das finanzielle Volumen der Strategie und die deutlichen Prioritäten werden erlauben, dass schnell Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht werden können. Ganz obenan müssen digitale Konnektivität stehen und die Fokussierung auf grüne Technologie. Die Unterstützung aus dem Europäischen Parlament, aus den Mitgliedstaaten und der Wirtschaft ist sehr groß. Viele Partner weltweit sind bereit, mit uns für die Realisierung von Global Gateway zusammenzuwirken, in Asien, in Afrika und in Amerika. Jetzt kommt es darauf an, das Management der Strategie effektiv aufzusetzen. Let´s walk the talk.”
Hintergrund: EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen hatte die Global Gateway-Initiative in ihrer jährlichen Grundsatzrede zur „Lage der Union“ im September 2021 angekündigt. Mit dem Geld sollen globale Infrastruktur-Projekte wie der Ausbau Erneuerbarer Energien, Wasserstoff-Projekte und Internetverbindungen finanziert werden. Today, the European Commission has unveiled the new “Global Gateway Strategy” infrastructure programme, in response to China’s Belt and Road initiative.
Reinhard Bütikofer MEP, Chair of the European Parliament’s China Delegation and Rapporteur of the Connectivity and EU-Asia Relations report, comments: “The European Commission’s Global Gateway Strategy represents a breakthrough and an important step forward for the EU. For too long, internal Commission squabbles had held up this important geostrategic initiative. Now, thankfully, President Ursula von der Leyen has made use of her authority to take this forward.“The financial volume of the strategy and the clear priorities will allow for quick action. Digital connectivity and the focus on green technology must be at the top of the agenda. The support from the European Parliament, the Member States and the business community is very strong. Many partners around the world are ready to work with us to realise the Global Gateway Strategy, in Asia, Africa and the Americas. More: Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the Global Gateway initiative in her annual State of the Union address in September 2021. The money will be used to finance global infrastructure projects such as the expansion of renewable energies, hydrogen projects and internet connections.
