Early figures indicate that pro-European parties have won in parliamentary elections in Ukraine. Reinhard Bütikofer, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, comments on the election in Ukraine:
“We welcome the pro-European orientation that the clear majority of Ukrainian voters have given their government and hope that this pro-European move can be implemented. While we are happy that the far right extremists didn’t do well, we believe that the push back against them has to continue.
“We regret, on the other hand, that turnout fell to 52.5%, and that in parts of eastern Ukraine and annexed Crimea people were prevented from voting.
“One of the major challenges of the new majority will be to continue the fight against corruption and create democratic transparency.”
